Marilena has been awarded a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant

Marilena has secured a €1.5m (£1.3m) European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant. The NanoNeuroOmics project aims to bridge the gap between brain pathophysiology and molecular changes in the blood, focusing on two of the most challenging central nervous system disorders: Alzheimer’s disease and Glioblastoma.

The NanoNeuroOmics project will use nanoparticles to uncover disease-specific protein markers in blood, aiming to develop early diagnostic tools and disease-monitoring biomarkers for both Alzheimer’s and glioblastoma. In addition, the project will investigate the intriguing ‘inverse comorbidity’ between these two diseases, shedding light on potential shared molecular pathways.
